We just started our Open Court Unit on Shadows. Here is a project we did today. It was a little tricky for some kiddos to keep the black paper stapled to their animal, but they came out pretty cute.
Hi Melissa! This is one of my favorite shadow projects. My district has been using Open Court for many years. I try to use the OC themes and make them fit with my other themes I work on. I also look at the skills being taught in OC and create activities to go along with the theme I am working on. One of my favorites is Red, White, and Blue because I do it in conjunction with President's Day. I have a lot of activities I incorporate myself because I am not fond of the books they have in the big book. I have also found I have to use a lot of my own green strand type activities because the pacing of OC in kindergarten is quite slow. We are testing blending and segmenting this trimester but it has not been introduced in OC. Hang in there....it gets easier to veer off a little.
